The Megan Ashley Perry Scholarship

The day that Megan graduated from the University of Delaware was a very special day. I am not sure that there was ever a bigger smile on a graduate's face. Tragically, just 3 years later Megan was killed by a drunk driver while attending the wedding of a good friend in Sea Isle City, New Jersey. She was 25 years old.

Megan grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and began her education at Corpus Christi Elementary School. She was a 2001 alumnus of St. Elizabeth High School and a 2005 alumnus of the University of Delaware. At the time of her death, Megan was working as a Recruiting Specialist in the Human Resource Department at Christiana Care. In Megan's own words: "The aspects of my work I find most rewarding are when I am able to display my compassionate, enthusiastic and intelligent nature."

Megan shared her infectious laugh and beautiful smile with everyone she came in contact with. Never at a loss for words, Megan expressed herself with a clarity and eloquence far beyond her years; she always had time to chat (and usually did so at length). In her own words: "I have made a promise to myself to never allow fear or judgment to cripple me, but allow it to inspire me. I love myself and I love most that I am not afraid to make mistakes, I am not afraid of the invaluable lessons I learn from my mistakes and I am not afraid to be. I embrace the essence of who I am, constantly working on myself and striving to be proud and inspired."

Megan was a determined and tenacious young woman. Her passion for life was only exceeded by her love for her family and friends. Her words and her desire to be authentic are best remembered in her own words, "Treat others as I would like to be treated, be kind and generous with both your time and charity, strive to succeed and never give up, and perhaps the most important lesson of all – be the change you want to see in the world."

To honor and commemorate Megan's life, we formed The Megan Ashley Perry Foundation. The Foundation seeks to emulate Megan's faith, integrity and love for her fellow man. The Foundation's mission is to enrich the lives of others through educational scholarship and charitable pursuits that are representative of those that Megan cherished during her life.

We began our fund raising efforts with a Beef & Root beer event in Wilmington, DE in 2009. It was through the genuine outpouring of affection and support that we realized the seed money to continue our efforts. Subsequent events were held and each and every time we were encouraged and rewarded with overwhelming participation and generosity.

With each event, The Foundation made progress towards its primary goal of funding an endowed scholarship at the University of Delaware in Megan's memory. In 2013, we were blessed to achieve our initial funding goal, which resulted in approximately a $2,000 award to be given to an incoming student every year in perpetuity. The first Megan Ashley Perry Scholarship will be awarded in the fall of 2015.

The Foundation is now asking all alumni, family and friends to help us grow this scholarship which will in turn enrich and encourage more students to pursue their dreams. Click DONATE above and 100% of your tax-deductible gift will go to the Megan Ashley Perry Scholarship Endowment!

Our fundraising goal for this campaign is $5,000. Please make your gift today.
