Support the Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship
Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship
The Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship was established in 2001 by Delta Tau Delta fraternity brothers, friends and former UD classmates of Richard L. Barbour, Jr., Esq. Rick graduated from UD in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Political Science. During his time as a student, he was a dedicated member of the UD wrestling team and beloved brother in Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Following graduation from UD, Rick attended Rutgers University and received a law degree in 1989.
Rick was an extraordinary young man, a good son, a good brother, a great friend, a sincere and caring human being, and a prosecutor with a deep commitment to justice. His life was cut short in 1991, the victim of a senseless armed robbery at an ATM machine in Philadelphia.
The Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship honors Rick's memory by providing scholarship support for well-rounded University of Delaware students who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a law degree and participate in club sports and extra-curricular activities. Preference is given first to political science majors, then to students in the College of Arts and Sciences. The scholarship is an endowed fund, meaning it is an interest earning account.
Please consider making a gift to the Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship!
By making a gift, you will allow the impact of the scholarship to grow. Your gift will increase the principal amount of the endowed fund. The endowment funds are never touched but the interest accrued is awarded in the form of annual scholarships. Therefore, your donation will help future law school students year after year in perpetuity.
"By awarding me the Ricky Barbour Memorial Scholarship, I was able to concentrate on what is important for me – education. The scholarship was not just appreciated by me, but by my family as well. I will never be able to describe the hand you had in helping to fund my education. Your financial generosity has allowed me to be one step closer to my goal and has inspired me to help others by giving back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help other students achieve their goal just as you have."- Logan Hayes '15, former recipient
